Worshipful Brother

James Evans

Michigan City Lodge, No.47 (California); Temple Lodge, No.33

At present we have not found a lot of information about Brother James Evans, which is surprising since he is sufficiently prominent in local history that a Duncan city street, Evans Street, is named after him. The Duncan land now comprising Evans Street, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Avenues and bordered by Centennial Park to the west and the E&N Railway tracks on the east was Brother James Evans' property when he was a Charter Member of Temple Lodge in 1899.

Temple Lodge records show he was one of the 14 Charter members of Temple Lodge in 1899. We have a dues receipt which from Michigan City Lodge, No.47 in California, dated October 1897, which he presented as proof of his being a Brother in good standing in 1899. He was Junior warden of Temple Lodge in 1902 and Senior Warden in 1903 but, for some reason, did not become Worshipful Master in 1904. Instead Wor. Brother Christopher Dobson served two consecutive terms as Worshipful Master of Temple Lodge in 1903 and 1904.

We will do more research on Brother James Evans and post it on this page as we uncover it.
